The primary purpose of an automatic feeder is reliability. If your feeder frequently jams, it defeats the entire purpose of automation. Pets thrive on routine, and inconsistent feeding can lead to anxiety, digestive issues, and even behavioral problems. For pet owners who rely on these devices for daily feeding or during short trips away, a jam-prone feeder is simply unacceptable. To rigorously test the PETLIBRO Smart Feeder's jam resistance, we designed a comprehensive methodology. We used three distinct kibble sizes: small (approximately 5mm), medium (approximately 10mm), and large (approximately 15mm). Each kibble type was tested over 50 consecutive feeding cycles, dispensing various portion sizes ranging from the minimum (1 portion) to larger meals (5 portions). We observed for any signs of jamming, partial dispensing, or error messages. We also intentionally introduced minor obstructions to evaluate the blockage sensor's responsiveness and the feeder's ability to clear itself or alert the user.
With small kibble, the PETLIBRO Smart Feeder performed exceptionally well. The smaller pieces flowed smoothly through the dispensing mechanism, and we observed no jams or partial dispenses across all 50+ cycles. The feeder's impeller design seemed perfectly suited for this size, ensuring consistent and accurate portion delivery. This is great news for owners of smaller breeds or those who use kibble specifically designed for puppies or small cats.
Medium-sized kibble also fared very well in our tests. While there was a slight increase in the audible effort of the motor during dispensing compared to small kibble, the feeder maintained its consistency. Out of 50 cycles, we recorded only one instance of a minor hesitation, which the feeder quickly resolved on its own without a full jam or error. The blockage sensor did not trigger during normal operation with medium kibble, indicating efficient flow.
The real test came with large kibble. Here, the PETLIBRO Smart Feeder showed its limits, though still performing admirably. We observed two full jams over 50 cycles, both occurring when dispensing larger portion sizes (4-5 portions). In both cases, the feeder's blockage sensor immediately detected the issue, stopped the motor, and sent an alert to the connected app. The feeder then attempted to clear the jam by reversing the mechanism, which was successful in one instance. The other required manual intervention to dislodge a particularly stubborn piece. This suggests that while the feeder can handle larger kibble, owners should monitor it more closely, especially with very large pieces or when dispensing maximum portions.
The PETLIBRO Smart Feeder's blockage sensor proved to be highly effective. In every instance where a jam or significant obstruction occurred (either naturally with large kibble or intentionally introduced), the sensor promptly detected the issue. It immediately halted the dispensing process, preventing motor strain and potential damage, and sent a real-time notification to the user's smartphone via the PETLIBRO app. This proactive alert system is a critical feature, ensuring that pet owners are aware of any feeding disruptions and can take action quickly. The automatic reversal attempt is also a valuable first line of defense against minor blockages.
