SmartPawsGuides, comparisons & trusted resources — Guides & trusted resources — always independent.
Every product recommendation on SmartPaws goes through the same process — independent research, real owner feedback, and an honest assessment of pros and cons. Here's exactly what that looks like.

Our Research Process
Before evaluating any individual product, we map the full category — what products exist, what price tiers are available, what problems each one claims to solve, and what the common failure points are across the category.
We cross-reference hundreds of verified owner reviews on Amazon, Chewy, and Petco — prioritising reviews from 6+ months of ownership over early impressions. We look for patterns in complaints, not just praise.
For health, nutrition, and behaviour products, we consult published veterinary guidance, AAHA/AVMA recommendations, and certified trainer resources to ensure our recommendations align with professional standards.
We verify material safety, check for relevant certifications (CE, FCC, ASTM), and flag any known safety concerns or recalls. If we have doubts about a product's safety record, it doesn't appear on the site.
We compare price against performance across the full category. A more expensive product can be better value than a cheaper one — or not. We call it honestly either way, and we explain our reasoning.
We list pros and cons on every product. If something has a real flaw — a poor app, a durability issue, a high price relative to alternatives — we say so. Our goal is to help you make a better decision, not to sell you something.
Editorial Independence
Brands cannot pay to appear on SmartPaws. No sponsored placements, no 'featured' slots sold to advertisers. Products earn their place through our evaluation process.
Some links on SmartPaws are affiliate links — we earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep our guides free. It never changes what we recommend.
We don't accept free products in exchange for coverage. Products sent unsolicited are returned or donated. Our recommendations are based on research, not on what arrived in the post.
If we get something wrong, we correct it — clearly and promptly. If a product we've recommended is discontinued, updated, or found to have a safety issue, we update the relevant pages.
